A Sterling & Welch inventory sticker attached to the back of the painting suggests it was created in or before 1949 – Lot No. 580/49/C1224. The Sterling & Welch Company was a fine home furnishing store located in Cleveland, Ohio that was known worldwide for its quality and elegance. The company’s name changed in 1950 after merging with the Linder-Davis Company. Summer Flowers is in excellent condition and shows no touch-ups under black-light inspection. The frame, gilded (29-1/2" x 34-1/2"), appears original and in good condition.
Believed to be executed from a window of the ‘sous les toits de Paris’ (under the roofs of Paris). Once a favored room of King Farouk’s Prime Minister, it over looked the Rue du Pere Demours in the Bon le Jardin. The oil painting is in excellent condition with no repairs or touch ups under black light inspection. The support is original. The frame, although not original to the painting, is an elegant 1930s-1940s frame which intensifies the visual experience. It is in very good condition with small character marks which mark its journey.
